DO NOT become weary doing good

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

Becoming physically tired is something we all experience.

For example, I had a goal of running.  At the beginning of the runs, I would start strong but would find myself walking the rest of the way.   I realized it was time to quit when the mere idea of running did not sustain me.  I had to work on my endurance as well! I don't have time for that.

Paul in Galatians 6:9 reminds us to "not become weary in doing good..."  Like my running abilities, I find three excuses that I wrestle with:

  1. Being dependent on my own strength and not relying on God as a source of confidence.
  2. The excitement of serving the Lord wears off.  I have a lot of energy at the beginning, but it begins to fade away over time and becomes just another checklist.
  3. “Nobody else cares.” I think this is one of the most relatable discouragements.

But God doesn't let me stop there.   He breathes life back into my wrestling matches.  He gives me endurance when I am weary.

He promises, “For at the proper time we will reap a harvest." I don't know about you, but in harvest season, I want to only harvest sweet fruits. I often feel that I only have one job to do: "don’t give up."

Why shop at the Prom Closet? Why donate your gently used or brand-new dresses?  Why serve and love people you don't even know?

Have you ever watched the movie The Lorax?  Recently, this quote from the movie came to mind:

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."

If you have donated a safety pin, prom dress, offered prayer, or anything else, thank you! You are part of the Prom Closet village, and you are part of the Harvest.

This year, 1,010 dresses were provided by people like you who “cared a whole awful lot” to young people who need to feel good about themselves.

Behind that number are countless Cinderella stories that you helped form. Please DO NOT become weary in doing good.

On our last day of the season before our prayer time, my mindset for the day (and now I find myself thinking about it often):

Today is a good day for God to do something good through me.

Blessings,

Aileen
